This spring, four years after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, we will hold a public forum inviting specialists in tourism to discuss challenges facing tourism in Tohoku and future strategies to overcome the challenges.
The upcoming UN World Conference on Disaster Reduction is drawing global attention. Taking this opportunity, the forum is intended not only to promote better understanding of safety and security in Tohoku to dispel harmful rumors about the region, but also to introduce industrial and tourism resources acquired through the post-disaster reconstruction/recovery process, including “recovery tourism” activities and disaster prevention/reduction research, and to globally convey the new attractive features of Tohoku where restoration has been accelerated.
